There
was a News Article on FF.com back in March 2002
about a competition. In the UK "The One" Single was going to have
just 1 copy made on each format. E.g. 1 Copy of a 7", 10", 12", CD
and Cassette. FF.com also had the list of which Magazines and
Radio Stations had which version. However, this
article is no longer on the Archived News section
and I never actually saw this competition in any of
the magazines. If anyone out there can provide me
with any additional information about the above
please mail me.
With the above
information I can come to the assumption that the 7"
that you see before you is either a Test Pressing
for the 7" that was going to be given away or it IS
the 7" that was going to be given way and due to the
cancellation of the competition it some how found
it's way out of BMG, instead of being destroyed.
Someone has traced
around the Foo Fighters logo with a yellow
highlighter pen. I have no idea why but it was
already done when I brought it. The track names have
also been handwritten on the sleeve and was most
likely done by a person who wasn't a FF fan because
the track names aren't 100% correct. The guy who I
brought this item from said that he was given it by
an employee of BMG.
If we take all of
my theories as possibly being correct then it is
also a strong possibility that there may be a 10" and
12" version somewhere too.
Update*
Another Foo Fighters Collector and a friend of mine has mailed me about a
Guy he knows who claims to be the Winner of The BBC Radio 1 Competition
for the Official: The One 7" Single. The guy says it came in a Picture
sleeve with the same art work as the Australian CD Single and is also
signed by Dave Grohl. However after a few attempts by myself I still
have not received any pictures??
